On Being Unreasonably Happy

It is true that all things we do are ultimately done so that we can feel better, but trying to find happiness from anything outside ourselves is ultimately a losing proposition. Like trying to earn love, striving to find or deserve happiness may yield conditional positive results. Daring to realize that true love and lasting joy are already within us and do not come to us from some outer source is the key to living our lives with freedom and enthusiasm. We have been conditioned to seek love, fulfillment and happiness by having conditions, people and events match what we think we need. So when things or people don't comply with what we feel we need, we react with feelings of displeasure.
The great thing about realizing that we are innately loving and loved, and that we are innately joyful, is that we can see the world through the lens of this love and not react to the things we do not like. We can dislike a politician or an event and still live in this state of love. The ouside stuff does not jar us because we do not hold so many requirements of what must be in order for us to feel happy. We are happy for nothing and anything we like is just icing on the cake.
